Hi, I would like some feedback on this before I continue with texturing and making the rest of the character, so please comment :)
It's been a while since I've been around here, but here we go. This is my 5th attempt at making a character, so far it's just the head. This is based on Tinkerbell, but trying to give her more of an old-school Tinkerbell look compared to the Disney CGI version. The eye holes still look weird to me though, but can't quite put my finger on it. The eyeballs themselves are temporary. I modeled this in the old fashion way, by starting with a simple plane and extruding, no sculpting. I did try to adjust for the camera lens perspective, as this head is like 8 meters high and not yet to scale so that might make it seem a little weird too. This is the first time I modeled a face without using any outside references, video tutorials or other resources. Last image is just to show topology.
be watchful of the chin area compared to the original design of tinkerbell and like the comments before mine, yes, the eyes are a bit on the sad side, don't worry about coloring the skin at this stage for presentation, keep all your focus on the form and when you are happy then add color. You're absolutely right, somewhere along the way I convinced myself that those kind of eyes is what gave the old Tink more of a mischievous look, I don't know why. Great advice, thanks for the help.
okay here goes, to give u some motivation ... tbh it's really cute and very good for the 5th time!
now for some constructive criticism her expression is a bit too sad, the eyes need a bit more focus, try creating it a bit Pixar's way and her chin is a bit too small compared to her cheeks... other than that as I said before... Good work :D
Tinkerbell is hard! I've tried her once myself and ended up turning it into something else. On the whole you haven't done to bad at all. The eyes are 'wrong', the original Tinkerbell's eyes were almost a perfect pointed elipse and they angled upwards towards her temples...I don't know if this helps but I would tilt them up a bit and smooth out the shape.
Also she had quite a high, relatively flat forehead...but keep tweaking, I think you'll get there.
