This is a second try on the pepper. I really like how it turned out!
I figured out that the key is to go very subtle with the color sift here since a pepper has a very harsh highlight you don't want to flush the hue with too much brightness. :P
I was thinking that too... that the pepper would be too "clean" looking. I wonder if some bumpy surface shadowing would make a big difference as a "texture" here.
It is a great pepper. Maybe too clean and pristine. Abundance or lack of color shift May be contingent on how much realism you are trying to achieve. One may certainly emphasize a mood with an exaggerated shift.

At least the highlights need more red color shifting around them to justify such large and soft white spots.

The highlights are a bit soft imo. The little bit of bounce light is a nice touch.
