[I work in an ice cream factory and when i thought of this idea, cherry-vanilla was what we were making for the day haha] i wanted a poster\canvas print but also something nice to have printed as journal covers.
Ive moved from traditional oil painting to digital painting in photoshop cs5, and i absolutely adore it. i despise drawing trees though--so any helpful tips in that area is super loved. i usually make some textured, squiggly lines with varying layers behind and in front of it with a leafy\spongy kind of brush.
i did my best with kimonos (and she looks a little too bendy-legged under there) so again i probably need some fabric studies in different weights? i love learning though guys so gimme some hints tips and tricks! :D
I really thought that I had already commented on this... I must be imagining things. XD
The colours that you have used are beautiful, and they work so well with the lines. I also love the way that you have drawn the hair. <3
I love ice cream and yes, you did paste the flavours of cherry-vanilla to this piece.
One advice I could give is to use reference of the objects/materials you are trying to bring to life. You don’t have to copy them exactly but, they really make a big difference as to the end results. If you want to draw only from imagination, first you have to study the object (let's say the cherry tree) from reference or real life and make at least a dozen rough drawings of the object colored and monochromatic, digital or with traditional media or mixed. Matt Kohr at his site CtrlPaint has many free tips and tricks and video tutorials for drawing/painting, especially for Photoshop users, many settings for brushes, filters, blending, etc. and useful exercises. Here is the link: http://www.ctrlpaint.com/library/
I usually don’t encourage this but, here is a link to tree brushes for Photoshop at Devianart: http://www.deviantart.com/browse/all/?section=&global=1&q=tree+brushes+photoshop&offset=0
Sometimes those kind of brushes can save a piece if used cleverly.
And, I cannot help it but to recommend my favour program for digital painting, Krita, and it is totally free. If you love digging to brush settings you would love Krita’s powerful brush engines. And, it has stabilizer for smooth line strokes. https://krita.org/krita-2-9-the-kickstarter-release/
One last thing I could recommend is to try to participate to CgCookie Weekly Exercises when they are back on air again. Tim Von Rueden’s Livestreams were very helpful for me also.
Very pretty! The second geisha I've seen today!! :D
I like the name and the concept...
