Ongoing Server and Database Challenges
Aug 23rd 2016
As you've likely noticed, CG Cookie has been struggling with some ongoing problems, causing our site to go down periodically; sometimes several times a day. The problem is caused by some compounding database and architecture issues, where each query (such as a page load, or user update) gets slower and slower until it finally brings the server down. This has been really frustrating for us (and I'm sure you as well).
I just wanted let everyone know that we are actively working on fixing these issues for good. The main thing we're doing is moving to a more modern framework, as announced a few weeks back, while also actively working to prune our existing database and optimize queries where we can so as to prevent the cascading effects that're currently causing the site to crash so often.
I can't make any promises when these issues will be resolved for good, but we're working on it near every day.
Thanks for the patience and understanding!
Cheers,
Jonathan
Thanks for the heads up guys. This is yet another example and proof of the high level of acumen at CGC, and just how much you all truly have the best interests of others in mind at all times. You all are such a blessing, and I don't know about anyone else, but I'm sure grateful to have found this "family." As Jonathan Williamson said in his bio, "Patience and humility..." We all would do well to heed this mantra of life. You guys are the best! You'll do great.
It's all good, man ... we'll still be here. Appreciate the update though!
We are actually going through a similar process but mostly swapping to higher powered servers and optimizing stored procedures/queries. Does cgcookie run on something like AWS or have your own physical servers currently? Our app is small enough that we actually have the DB and the Website on the same server but I'm considering splitting into three: assets, site and database. Best of luck.
Good luck on getting it fixed. But I must know who bit the cg cookie? it wasn't me I have my own cookies!
Why do I read this with Jonathan's voice in my head? )
Money well spent each month, keep fighting the good fight.
If you guys take volunteer work from an older programmer, I'd gladly help out with anything from coding to server & process optimization & automation to QA, etc...
Oh the problem of being good and in high and higher demand.... think positive we know you all can do this....
