I made my "Mother Earth" literally earth. I made the skin of her represent the whole earth, that it's her own propety, her doing of whats living there. The background/what's around her I made clouds, and that's because I thought it would look beautiful. :)
I made the colours hang around blue/green/purple (that's an amazing colour combo.), but in the sky I gave a little tone of red for the contrast. After I finished the whole painting I edited the "Mother"'s body that way the colours wouldn't pop out too much, but that it would give a warm feeling, as for colours.
