When I imagined a funny scene involving a snowman, I immediately had an image of a Darth Vader version of a snowman. It then evolved into a fight scene and transformed from the classic star wars into the spaceballs parody which fits better.
The balls, snow hill, trees and slide were modeled and rendered in blender 2.61 (with cycles). Since cycles doesn't yet support render layers, I had to create the glow of the light-sabres in Photoshop, where I also added the sky background and did some color corrections and fixups.
