I used GIMP to create these images as part of a Material Studies exercise from Concept Cookie. I only have a few weeks worth of experience of digital painting, so believe me when I say I tried my best. I hope you enjoy!
1. Leather - I used an airbrush and a sand texture filter.
2. Metal - I used an airbrush.
3. Skin - Similar to the leather, but in a much lighter fashion.
4. Crystal Gems - I used a leaf brush to create this piece, my first attempt at making crystals.
5. Jello - I used an airbrush to create the base and a water brush to create the lines.
6. Bubble - I used a combination of a basic round brush and an airbrush to create this piece. I wanted to portray the bubble as a see-through object, so I painted a landscape in the background.
7. Wood - I used an airbrush and a few texture brushes to create this one. I am not used to creating wood texture, but I think I'm on the right path.
8. Matte Armor - I used a pattern brush and filled it in with an airbrush. I had absolutely no clue what a matte armor is, but I think I came close to portraying it.
9. Orange - I used an airbrush and a chalk brush for this one, I am happy at the way it came out.
