Isle of giants (mother nature contest) Final

I’m really sick of the rendition of mother nature as humanoid; it really goes to show how obsessed with ourselves humans are. I went with a more animalistic route, being inspired by the deer-like renditions of her whilst trying to avoid cliches (like the flat human face.) I didn’t get to refine this as much as I’d have liked to, I kinda burned out midway through and let it sit for 3 weeks. I did some touchups tonight, but only to really show her design rather than make my technical skills the focus of it. I was inspired by: Aboriginal dot paintings. They are always so beautifully nature-centric. Owls; I always viewed them as overseers of forests. The universe- I tried to make her eyes look very starry, because nature extends beyond just us. Horses, deer, other such quadrupeds. Death/guts, because it’s a part of life. And I’ve always adored the death/life cycle- like how plants only feed us because they know we’ll benefit them when we die. Menstruation, because I see it as the epitome of motherhoodness. Vines, moss, etc. Organic plant material. The glass-like crystals on her back were to give her a somewhat "alien" look- like something not of this world, but composed entirely of things from this world. I wanted to create a sense of eeriness about her, like she was a real walking goddess, rather than simply a mish-mash of animal designs. Thanks for lookin’!
