Failed, really. I tried to use only hair particles (ribbons) because I know that it would have been easier if I had used objects or groups. It looked good in the fuzzy renders but the better render makes it look like fur instead of a plant. I would tweak it if I had time but this was a 4.5 hour render (500 cycles).
