Concept Color - Red
Title - The Gentleman
Story:
The gentleman is a victorian era lord and scientist in a steam punk universe that has found an artifact (a golden compass) that enables him to travel in time, but fate has it he is not able to control his journeys. He is stuck between history and tries to find his way back home.
A bit about the process...
I've played around in my head with the idea of making a victorian era steam punk character that can travel through time. I wanted to give him an elegant and imposing feel. Here are the initial figure sketches: https://cgcookie.com/concept/images/figure-sketch/
I've started with a few poses to get the right feel but turned back to the first drawing because I thought it suits the character best. But I added a compass to add a bit more depth to his story. At first I wanted to draw a steam-punk time machine, but I liked the compass idea much more (and it was a lot easier to draw :D). I wanted to make him more steam-punk at first but while drawing I thought it took away from his elegance. I could have easily spent a few more hours on rendering but didn't have any time left to submit. It was great practice and very fun to draw. :)
Also, thanks a lot Concept Cookie and Tim Von Rueden for the female character tutorial. This is my first character design ever so it helped me big time.
