3D printed model for blind & partially-sighted people Final

For the first time wall paintings can be identified by touch using 3D Modeling (Blender) and 3D Printing. Using this new educational offer at the castle “Albrechtsburg Meißen” the museum visit for blind and partially-sighted people shall be enhanced. We produced the first of six 3D Models in A3 format. The focus was especially on details. Through three-dimensionality a depth effect is generated, that creates a haptic experience of the historic wall paintings. At first, we used photo images of the wall paintings to create 3D Data using Blender. In doing so various height levels could be visualized. Afterwards, using Selective Lasersintern the single figures could be manufactures out of plastics (PA2200). We produced the figures individually to facilitate the finishing processes of coloring the figures. The usage of bright colors is essential for the experience of partially-sighted people as they can see the outlines of the figures. Rapidobject – 3D printing service from Germany
