Blender does have timed auto-save to be sure, but I find that it always helps when working on a large project to make iterative saves, especially before major changes and parts of the work.

Yeah I have a setup so that it saves temp files instead of overwriting my main one.

i wouldnt like that shawn, cause then you save something that isn't what you wanted at all and perhaps can't undo all the steps
