Left Candle has the SSS Node and the Right Candle mixes the Diffuse and Translucent Nodes.
I set a timer and decided to hit Render at the buzzard. A self imposed challenge which forced me to make decisions.
.
These are my observations:
The L Material looks better than the R. R kinda looks like weird glass. L material wins, the weird artifacts are due to Bad Modelling, I can see the Edge Loops, Bad Sculpting it seems squashed and perhaps needed a higher subdivision.
Notes: Build a proper candle, I should separate the top face and assign that a different material than the rest of the candle because that's where the melted wax accumulates, the SSS could use a different color, add Anisotropy to the metal plate and add Dust. Fix the fuse, and discover Fire.
P.S
I will come back and create another Candle render after I finish the course.
